Abstract. The article presents the results of field studies of the source material of spring barley of various ecological and geographical origins. The purpose of the studies was to identify sources of economically valuable traits to develop new highly adapted varieties. The work was performed in 2017–2019 in the Khabarovsk Territory. The soil was meadow brown podzolized gley heavy loamy. The object of the study was collection samples of various ecological and geographical origin (17 samples) and selection lines of spring barley of competitive variety testing (8 samples). Kazminsky zoned barley variety was used as a standard. In the years optimal in terms of moisture supply, grain yield was 1370–5150 kg/ha. The weight of 1000 grains in the varieties ranged from 31.2 g to 55.1 g. KM-1474-1186 (Czechoslovakia), Oscar (Krasnoyarsk Territory), Tersel (Canada), Trual (USA), NSQL 1 (Yugoslavia) varieties were most stress-resistant (SR was from -0.4 to -5.3); Clearwater (USA), Omsky Golozerny 2 (Omsk Region), C-105 (Chelyabinsk Region), and Trual (USA) were distinguished by high genetic flexibility in grain yield under stress growing conditions (GF was from 31.1 to 42.2). Trual variety (USA) was characterized by a high grain content in an ear (58 grains); Nuegrosse (Sweden) was characterized by a high weight of 1000 grains (51.4 g). KM-1474-1186 (Czechoslovakia), Nuegrosse (Sweden), Wanudet (USA), Irbe (Latvia) had a stable number of grains per ear (V was less than 10%). As effective sources of valuable traits, we recommend high-yielding variety Trual (USA) (its average yield over the years of the study was 4230 kg/ha); NSQL 1 (Yugoslavia), Bear (USA), and Clearwater (USA), characterized by a stable productive tilling capacity (V was less than 10%); Tamalpais (USA), Omsky Golozerny 2 (Omsk Region), S-105 (Chelyabinsk Region), and Trual (USA) with the greatest genetic flexibility in terms of the number of grains in the main ear (GF was 47.5– 57.0).
