Abstract. The studies were conducted in 2011–2019. The purpose was to study the dependence of soil fertility and crop yields on the morphometric parameters of the terrain under conditions of the Central Chernozem Region to improve agroecological monitoring. The work was performed on an experimental field in the Medvensky district, Kursk region on arable land with a dome-shaped terrain with an area of 86 ha; the sampling step was 50 m. The object of the study was chernozem soils of varying degrees of erosion and leaching. Based on digital modelling of the terrain using GIS technologies, we conducted a morphometric analysis of its characteristics, generated electronic maps, made a comprehensive taxonomic assessment of the heterogeneity of agrochemical properties, based on which we constructed an integrated mosaic – an intermediate cartographic-mathematical construction model reflecting the combination of morphological characteristics of the terrain in space subsequently superimposed onto a digital elevation model (DEM) using the Surfer software. We revealed a high interdependence between the exposure and the slope angle of the humus content in the arable soil layer (R(MN) = 0.72) and the average pH value of the soil (R(MN) = 0.59). The humus content in chernozem soils was inversely related to the degree of erosion; the correlation coefficient was -86. The main factors limiting the yield of winter wheat under conditions of insufficient moisture supply were exposure and slope angle determining hydrothermal conditions as well as the content of mineral nitrogen in the soil (RMN = 0.72). The study results can be used to assess the natural resource potential of agrolandscapes and computer-aided design of adaptive landscape farming systems.
