Abstract. The purpose of the studies was to determine the role of oxidoreductase enzymes – superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), polyphenol oxidase (PPO), catalase (CAT) – in the adaptation of soybean seeds (Glycine max (L.) Merr) to a wide range of temperatures for further breeding of new productive soybean varieties or to select already registered varieties resistant to hypo- and hyperthermia in a sharply continental climate. The object of the study was the seeds collected from soybean plants of Lidia variety grown on meadow chernozem-like soil in the Amur region in 2019. The seeds were exposed to positive temperatures – 4 C, 10 C, 37 C, 42 C, and 45 C for 5 h. The control was the seeds kept at the temperature of 23 C. Under the influence of hypo- and hyperthermia, the level of malondialdehyde in soybean seeds increased from 1.85 umol/g of wet weight (in the control) to 3.8 umol/g of wet weight (at the temperature of 4 C) and 5.22 umol/g of wet weight (at the temperature of 45 C) that indicated the oxidative stress. The highest total enzyme activity (72.1 ME/mg of protein, with a value of this indicator in the control of 38.5 ME/mg of protein) was observed under the action of a temperature of 10 C. For POD, we noted increased specific activity, whereas for SOD, we noted a high polymorphism of forms that made it possible to use these enzymes as a marker of increased soybean’s cold and heat resistance. The study results indicated the participation of oxidoreductase enzymes in the protective and adaptive reactions of soybean plants to the effects of hypo- and hyperthermia.
