Abstract. The aim of the study was to find methods to increase the efficiency of potato production by selecting high-yielding varieties with good quality indicators for the conditions of the Kemerovo region. Field experiments were conducted in 2016–2018 in the steppe zone. Material for the study was varieties bred in Russia (Lyubava, Nevsky) and abroad (Red Scarlet, Gala, Zekura) belonging to two ripeness groups. Russian varieties were used as standards. We used the cultivation technology generally accepted for the zone. The soil was leached heavy loamy chernozem. Plasticity and stability parameters were calculated according to the method of S. A. Eberhart and W. A. Rassel. High-yielding early-ripening varieties Red Scarlet (25.0–29.3 t/ha), Gala (28.7–32.3 t/ha), and Lyubava (25.0–28.8 t/ha) were included in the extensive group (bi = 0.76; 0.62 and 0.67, respectively). The yield of the foreign variety Zekura varied from 40.8 t/ha to 50.0 t/ha; the yield of the Russian variety Nevsky varied from 31.0 t/ha to 38.5 t/ha, with a regression coefficient greater than one – bi was 1.63 and 1.32, respectively, that indicated the high plasticity of these genotypes. Lyubava variety bred in the Kemerovo region was the most stable (Si2 = 0.11). In all the years of the study, the yield of potato varieties bred abroad was higher than that of the varieties bred in Russia, on average, 1.2 times. The yield of mid-early varieties was higher than that of early-ripening varieties by 9.6 t/ha. The best quality indicators of tubers were registered in mid-early varieties Zekura and Nevsky: starch content was 22% and 20%, respectively; vitamin C content was 12.7 mg % and 14.5 mg %, respectively. Potato tubers did not contain any toxic elements, organochlorine pesticides, nitrates, and imidacloprid.

Keywords: potato (Solanum tuberosum L.); variety; yield; gross harvest; planting area; plasticity and stability.
