Abstract. For the development of irrigated agriculture, it is necessary to provide Russian agricultural producers with domestic sprinkling equipment that is not inferior in its technical and operational characteristics to foreign machines. The study aimed to design an automated, high-performance, environmentally friendly sprinkler technology, subject to minimizing the costs of integral resources and maximizing ergonomics, reliability, and safety during operation. The work was performed in 2016–2018. Engineering and technical solutions, design documentation and a prototype of a new generation machine were based on the scientific and technical groundwork for the Russian wide-grip sprinkling machine Kuban-LK, which was mass-produced in the 1990s. Its designers sought to maintain a balance between agro-ecological and technological requirements: irrigation should entail the formation of artificial precipitation, close in structure to natural rains of medium strength, with a droplet diameter of 0.8–1.2 mm, an intensity of up to 0.25 mm/min with a uniform distribution over the area less than 0.8. This should ensure an economically rational yield, as well as the protection of water and land resources. According to the results of the state test of the prototype, it was recognized that the machine meets the requirements of the Technical Specifications in terms of purpose and safety indicators and was recommended for serial production, which began in 2019 at the machine-building plant BSG, LLC. Russian agricultural producers were supplied a serial batch of 25 wide-grip sprinkling machines. They did not have any complaints on sprinkling machines as they worked reliably; it is planned to develop their production.

Keywords: wide-grip sprinkling machines; irrigation quality; technical and operational characteristics; irrigation.
