Abstract. The study aimed to determine the effect of various doses of Echinacea purpurea extract in the diet of broiler chickens on their growth rate and safety. The chicken age was from one day to 40 days. The work was performed at an industrial poultry farm in the Kemerovo region on broilers ISA F15. By the group-analogue method, we formed a control group and five experimental groups of day-old chickens, 50 birds each. Throughout the experiment, the chickens from the control group were fed complete feed according to the growing phases, whereas the birds from the experimental groups were additionally fed with the extract of Echinacea purpurea at doses of 4.1 mg/kg, 5.6 mg/kg, 7.1 mg/kg, 8.6 mg/kg, and 10.1 mg/kg of body weight. As a part of the daily dose of the additive, the content of biologically active compounds of echinacea was within 10–50% of the therapeutic dose. We established that for chickens from the third and fourth experimental groups an increase in the absolute and average daily body weight gain was 5.3% and 5.1% (p was less than 0.05) with a decrease in feed consumption per 1 kg of gain by 6.9% and 10.6%, respectively, compared to the control group. Feeding broiler chickens Echinacea purpurea extract did not significantly affect carcass quality and chemical composition of poultry meat. To increase the growth rate and feed conversion when growing broiler chickens it is advisable to include the extract of Echinacea purpurea at the dose of 7.1 mg/kg of body weight in the composition of the complete feed from the first day to the 33rd day of life of the bird.

Keywords: extract; Echinacea purpurea; broiler chicken; growth intensity; feed costs; safety; quality of carcasses; chemical composition of meat.
