Abstract. The purpose of the research was to study the chemical composition and energy value of silage from a mixture of fodder galega and awnless brome, as well as the efficiency of using this feed for fattening young cattle. One kilogram of silage from a mixture of fodder galega and awnless brome contained 0.28 MJ of metabolic energy and 28 g of digestible protein. In the control group, animals received 12 kg of a similar feed from an alfalfa-brome mixture. The use of 12 kg and 17 kg of the studied silage in the diets of fattened young animals contributed to an increase in daily live weight gains, compared to the control group, by 9.5% and 14.3%. The costs of concentrates per 1 kg of live weight gain in bulls, received 12 kg of the studied silage in the diet, were 9.3% lower than in the control group. The dose of concentrated feed in the diet of calves consuming 17 kg of the studied silage can be reduced by 37.2% without reducing productivity. The amount of mixed fodder spent per 1 kg of gain in the experimental groups was less by 400 g and 1,600 g than in the control group. The results of the balance experiment indicated an improvement in the digestibility of nutrients in diets when feeding silage from a mixture of fodder galega and awnless brome. At the same time, the level of profitability of beef production increased by 2.5% and 4.7%.

Keywords: protein; silage of a mixture of fodder galega and awnless brome; feeding; diet.
