Abstract. The study aimed to increase the genetic variability of cultivated species and varieties of berry crops in dynamic environmental conditions to ensure the stable production of eco-products with high therapeutic, dietary, and prophylactic properties. The work was performed in the Tambov region in 2000–2020. We evaluated the main trends in breeding chokeberry, honeysuckle, gooseberry, raspberry, sea buckthorn, red currant, and black currant. Genetic collections of berry crops were annually replenished with new genotypes from various scientific institutions of the Russian Federation and other countries. Currently, the collection of the I.V. Michurin Federal Scientific Centre includes four chokeberry varieties, 108 honeysuckle varieties, 71 gooseberry varieties, 48 raspberry varieties, 41 sea buckthorn varieties, 106 red currant varieties, and 246 black currant varieties. A long-term comprehensive assessment of more than 500 collection variety samples made it possible to identify 85 sources of economically valuable traits for breeding: productivity, large fruitiness, high palatability of fruits, evenness of berries in the bunch, fruit resistance to shedding, simultaneous ripening of berries in a bunch, great number of productivity components, self-fertility, early maturity, a great number of bunches, long bunches, dense bunches, weak spinosity of shoots, high content of biologically active substances in fruits, high winter hardiness and resistance to pests and diseases. For industrial use, the following varieties were recommended: Mulatka (chokeberry), Berendey, Goluboy Desert, Knyaginya, Lyonya, Pamyati Kuminova, Pyotr Pervyy, Severnoe Siyanie (honeysuckle), Aristokrat, Kazachok, Krasnoslavyansky, Serenada, Chernoslivovyy (gooseberry), Balzam, Bryanskoe Divo, Zolotaya Osen’, Karamel’ka, Meteor, Podarok Kashinu, Sulamif’, Shakhrazada (raspberry), Yantarnaya Yagoda (sea buckthorn), Bayana, Vika, Viksne, Gazel’, Dana, Smolyaninovskaya (red currant), Amirani, Zelyonaya Dymka, Tamerlan, Chernavka, Shaluniya (black currant).
