Abstract. The work aimed to design an apparatus for vapour distillation of essential oil raw materials, in which, while maintaining the existing advantages of mobile apparatuses, their technological disadvantages would decrease. The new mobile sectional apparatus for vapour distillation of essential oil raw materials (SPDE-4) with a total volume of 14.5 m3 consists of four sections operating in an autonomous mode of vapour distillation. This made it possible to efficiently process essential oil raw materials weighing from 300 kg to 2,000 kg both in the mode of sequential distillation in each section (for one-section apparatus) and in the mode of simultaneous operation of all sections (for four-section apparatus). The productivity of the apparatus, depending on the operating mode and working cycle, varies from 600 kg/h when one apparatus is operating in one-section mode to 4,000 kg/h in a pseudo-continuous four-section mode. In the design of SPDE-4, the mode of intensive vapour distillation of essential oil raw materials was implemented by increasing the density of the vapour flow, in comparison with the apparatus of the KTT-18M type, by 2.6 times to 330 m3/m2 and its uniform distribution over the cross-section of the apparatus. This reduced the duration of the process 4 times and made it possible to increase extraction of lavender essential oil by 15% and to significantly improve its quality by increasing the content of the main component of linalyl acetate from 30% to 40% due to a decrease in the time of contact of the raw material with water vapour. At the same time, the consumption of vapour and water for the production of 1 kg of lavender oil was reduced 2.6 times, and the loss of heat to the atmosphere was reduced 34 times. The economic effect of using the SPDE-4 apparatus only for vapour distillation of lavender was at least 9 thousand rubles/1 ton of processed raw materials.
