Abstract. The studies aimed to assess the dependence of the yield of the aboveground mass of Bunias orientalis L. plants on the feeding area and to determine their biochemical composition (contents of amino acids, flavonols, and glucosinolates) for cultivating as a fodder crop under conditions of the North. The work was performed in 2007–2019 in the Komi Republic. The soil of the experimental plot was soddy-podzolic gleyic, loamy; humus content was 4.4%; K2O content was 6.02 mg/100 g of soil; Р2О5 content was 17.03 mg/100 g of soil; pH(salt) was 4.53. The highest yield (6.2 kg/m2) of Bunias orientalis L. was noted with a plant nutrition area of 60 x 30 cm in the third year of life. The above-ground mass of plants contained all the essential amino acids (about 40% of the total amino acids) dominated by leucine (1.58 g/100 g of dry matter); the lowest proportion accounted for by methionine (0.05 g/100 g of dry matter). In the phases of budding and flowering of plants, we registered high content of aliphatic amino acids (7.68 g/100 g and 8.23 g/100 g of dry matter, respectively) and low content of diaminomonocarboxylic acids (2.5 g/100 g of dry matter). The above-ground mass was rich in flavonols, the content of which varied from 0.25% to 15.43% depending on the phase of development and plant organ; buds and flowers were distinguished by their highest content (6.06% and 15.43%, respectively), the stems were distinguished by their lowest content (0.25%). In the green mass of Bunias orientalis L. concentration of glucosinolates was low (0.32–0.59%), which makes it possible to safely feed it to farm animals.

Keywords: introduction; Bunias orientalis L.; productivity; protein amino acid composition; flavonols; glucosinolates.
