Abstract. The research aimed to identify the best varieties for the test area, having a high general adaptive ability and forming the highest yield under favourable conditions. The Ural region is characterised by extremely unstable weather conditions, which during the study period (2017–2021) varied from drought (HTC=0.8 in 2017) to severe waterlogging (HTC=2.6 in 2021). Pea varieties and lines from nursery of competitive testing, which consistently exceeded the standard in productivity over a five-year period, were selected for the study. The forecrop was green manure (colza) fallow. The soil was gray forest. Indicators of ecological stability and plasticity were calculated according to the method of S.A. Eberhart, W.A. Russell. The resistance of the varieties to stress and the average yield under contrasting environmental conditions were determined using the equation of A.A. Rossille, J. Hamblin. Over the five-year period of the study, varieties Krasnoufimsky 20, 16-144, 15-165 provided a significant increase in productivity to the standard (by 2.56, 4.84 and 4.01 c/ha, respectively). The plastic variety samples Krasnoufimsky 20 and line 15-165 (the rank sum – 31) and the ecologically sustainable variety Fakel (the rank sum – 41) stood out according to the rank assessment for adaptability, plasticity, and stability. Line 16-144 was characterised by high genetic flexibility (25.08), general adaptive ability (2.54), ultrastability (2.2), high stability (5.85) and increased, compared to the standard, productivity (by 2,3-9.0 q/ha) under various weather conditions.
