Abstract. he studies aimed to identify the oat varieties responsiveness to chemical property and salt concentration at the early stages of ontogenesis. The work was performed in laboratory conditions in 2022. Different concentrations of salts (50; 100; 150 and 200 mmol/l) NaCl, Na2SO4 and Na2CO3 were studied, the control was distilled water. Germination force, laboratory germination, and air-dry mass of germinating seedlings were determined. Varieties Desant, Assol and Petrovich were highly resistant to chloride salinization. The coefficient of salt resistance to NaCl (100 mmol/l) was 0.91; 0.93 and 0.96 units respectively. The germination energy at a NaCl concentration of 150 mmol/l decreased to 41, 54, and 70%, respectively. The resistance to sulphate salinization of these varieties was less pronounced, and at a concentration of 150 mmol/l, the laboratory germination of Desant and Assol decreased to 26 and 24%, respectively. Seeds of the Petrovich variety did not germinate. With sodium carbonate salinization at the lowest concentration (50 mmol/l), the germination energy and laboratory germination of the Assol variety were 20 and 27%, respectively. The biomass of seedlings in this variant was 11% of the control, the other varieties did not germinate. Sodium chloride at concentrations of 50 and 150 mmol/l had a stimulating effect on the varieties Desant and Assol – the biomass of seedlings exceeded the control by 9-16%. The germination energy strongly depended on the chemical property and salt concentration – the contribution of factors to the formation of the trait was 30.4 and 28.8%, respectively. Their interaction accounted for 12.0%. Laboratory germination depended on the characteristics of the variety by 6.8%; by 29.6% on the type of salt and by 34.4% on salinity. Varieties Desant and Assol were recommended for use as parent forms in breeding salt-tolerant oat varieties in Western Siberia.
