Abstract. The research aimed to study the age characteristics of growth and development of purebred and hybrid sheep depending on the genotype. Experimental work was carried out in the period from 2018 to 2021 on the basis of the Federal Research Centre for Animal Husbandry named after Academy Member L.K. Ernst. The object of the research was interspecies hybrids of argali with sheep of the Romanov breed with a genotype of ¼ argali × ¾ Romanov breed (n=32) and purebred Romanov individuals (n=36). Linear measurements were taken at birth, at the age of 1, 3, 6, 12 and 18 months. Multivariate analysis of variance of the obtained data revealed a statistically significant effect of the genotype on the intensity of growth and development of the organism. The influence of the genotype factor on such exterior indicators as withers height F=2.023, height at hips F=2.011, back height F=2.083, body weight F=2.553 (p < 0.001), stretch F=2.014 (p < 0.05 ). Purebred individuals are superior to hybrid ones in terms of intensity of growth and development. Their advantage in live weight at the age of 3 and 6 months was 23.6% and 93.5%, respectively (p ≤ 0.01). interspecies hybrids of argali with sheep of the Romanov breed inherited some of the exterior features of argali. They were characterised by a more compact physique, had a more compressed rectangular body shape. This was expressed in a decrease in the indicators of the oblique body length and the index of stretching, depending on age, by 7-14% (p < 0.05). In hybrids, a tendency to a decrease in the width and depth of the chest was revealed, in relation to the values of similar indicators established in purebred animals at the age of 3 and 6 months by 7-22%.
