Abstract. The research aimed to identify patterns of the influence of meteorological conditions and the age of the herbage on the formation of seed productivity of varieties of awnless brome of various ecological and geographical origin under the conditions of the Middle Volga region. Experimental work was carried out in the Samara region in 2017-2021. Seven varieties of different ecological and geographical origin were evaluated. The soil of the experimental plot was represented by typical medium-humus, medium-thick, medium-clay chernozem. Agricultural technology was generally accepted in the Middle Volga region for perennial cereal grasses. The predecessor – black fallow. During the research period 2017-2021 there were contrasting conditions, significantly different from the long-term average values. The hydrothermal coefficient during the years of research varied within 0.46-1.35. Awnless formed the highest seed yield in the first (303.3-557.3 kg/ha) and third (229.3-438 kg/ha) years of use. In the fourth year of use, it sharply decreased (to 89.3-170.0 kg/ha) as a result of thickening of crops, reduction of nutritional area and illumination. The number of generative shoots in the awnless brome herbage decreased as the age of the herbage increased – from 380.3 pcs/m² in the first year of use to 165 pcs/m² in the fourth year of use. On average, over the years of study, the highest seed yield was observed in varieties 1-16/14, 1-12/16 and SibNIISKhoz 189, which surpassed the standard variety Bezenchuksky 9 by 15.3-31.4%. The greatest influence on the productivity level of awnless brome under the conditions of the Middle Volga region was exerted by hydrothermal conditions during flowering, seed filling (r=0.77) and autumn tillering (r=0.81).
