Summary. Investigations were carried out to identify the reasons for culling Red breed sires at open joint stock breed-stud «Barnaulskoe» and Red Steppe breed cows on breeding-farms named after Kirov and «Schumanovskiy» in Altai Territory, and also to evaluate bulls genotype by resistance of their daughters to some diseases. For this purpose, three groups of sires were formed, a total of 162 animals of Red Steppe, Red Danish and Angler cattle breeds in which the reasons for their drafting out were analyzed. The reasons for drafting out 529 and 357 Red Steppe cows were analyzed on breeding-studs named after Kirov and «Schumanovskiy» for the years 2010 and 2011, respectively. Nine bulls were estimated for their daughters’s resistance (the number of daughters of individual sires was from 35 to 122) to gynecological diseases, udder diseases and extremities on the same breeding-studs. 32.1% of sires averaged over all the breeds were culled due to the plan fulfilled for the accumulated sperm. From 11.1 to 16.0% of bulls drafted out of the herd for their wild temper, low biological productivity and poor quality of sperm. 3.1-6.8 % of Red Steppe sires were culled caused by inhibited and extinct conditional reflex, spastic paresis of hind extremities, pseudomonosis and traumatic injuries. Most of Red Steppe bulls (64.3%) were drafted out of the herd for the reason of the plan fulfilled for accumulated sperm which is 2-4 times as much as that of Angler and Red Danish bulls (P < 0.05-0.01). There were no significant differences in other indices among the bulls of different breeds. From 8.5% of bull Tsigan’s daughters to 46.8 % of Inzhir’s ones (P < 0.001) were culled caused by gynecological diseases. Less significant differences – the ones reaching 30.9 and 26.1% (P < 0,001) - were revealed among the bulls for the number of the daughters rejected because of udder and extremities diseases. The greatest number of daughters (25.0-34.3%) of the bulls Kashalot, Korda, Tsigan and Zephyr was drafted out because of their poor milk productivity. On the breeding-stud after Kirov the frequency of cows culled caused by gynecological diseases and diseases of extremities is by 15.8-20.7% (P < 0.001) higher, and because of poor productivity and udder diseases, the frequency is by 14.8-19.9% (P < 0.001) less than that on breeding-stud «Schumanovskiy».
