Summary. The article presents the analysis of dynamics of the main indices of arable soil fertility of Ulyanovsk region for 50 years, and also the ecological state of tillage on January 1st, 2014. The results of the 4th-7th cycles of survey showed the reduction of humus content for this period. Its total stock decreased on the average through the region by 6 t/ha, and average weighted content in the 7th cycle was 4.6 %. The average weighted content of mobile phosphorus in arable lands increased during five cycled and reached 127.5 mg/kg. After it the value of this index stabilized at the level 127.9 mg/kg. The average weighted content of mobile potassium for the whole period of monitoring can be characterized as relatively constant. It varied in the range from 115.9 to 136.8 mg/kg. Within the fifty year period of monitoring the area of acid soils increased by 14.9 %. The soils of the region are characterized by low content of zinc, medium content of copper and manganese. With respect to salts of heavy metals the small areas of arable soils are detected, which relate to the III group in the content of cadmium and nickel.
