Summary. The investigations were carried out in 2009-2013 on the basis of Smolensk State Agricultural Academy in order to identify the features of formation of productivity and to determine grain quality of new spring barley varieties Nur, Vladimir and Posada depending on planting data and level of mineral nutrition. Simultaneously, the possibility of its usage for food, groats and brewing was determined. Field two-factor experiments were established in six-field crop rotation (potato – spring grains – winter grains – spring grains – legumes). The soil of the experimental field is sod-podzol, middle loamy, middle reclaimed, subacid. Under conditions of Smolensk region mentioned varieties had high ecological plasticity and formed the yield at the level of 3.50...5.32 t/ha. The most favourable conditions for development of barley plants were in the first sowing period (24/04-28/04) and with the gradual scheme of nitrogen applying N60+30P90K90. In these variants it was noted the highest field germination (81...84 %), survival level (82...88 %), leaf area (40.6...43.6 thousand sq m/ha), photosynthetic capacity of crops (1.75...1.94 million sq m* days/ha), yield of dry matter (11.0...11.8 t/ha) and the best parameters of the grain quality: grain-unit was more than 630 g/l, hoodness was 8.6...9.4 %, uniformity was 85...90 %, and extractivity was 75...78 %; these quality indices meet the requirements of groats and brewing industry. According to the level of productivity, complex of physical, chemical and technological parameters suitable for brewing variety Vladimir was distinguished; for it the output of commodity beer from 100 dals of malt was 525.67 kg, that was higher in comparison with Posada and Nur by 7 and 9 % correspondingly.
