Summary. The influence of a natural biopolymer chitosan (polysaccharide composed of unbranched chain of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine) on milk productivity of cows of black-and-white breed bred in the APC “Farm Rassvet” in Chelyabinsk region was estimated. Two groups of animals in tens were formed for the study taking into account the body weight, origin and age. Cows of the experimental group in addition to the basic diet were given an acid-soluble chitosan in a dose of 20 g/head in the morning and evening during 7 days, then a break for a week was taken and the drug was administered again for 7 days. Milk was estimated according to current State Standards. In the test group the average daily milk yield during the first 100 days of lactation per one cow was higher than in control one by 0.3…5.04 kg, during the first month – by 98.7 kg, and for the whole period of research – by 385.4 kg. The amount of dry matter increased by 0.19 % and reached 12.79 % after the single application already. The protein concentration in milk of cows in both groups was within the physiological norm. But for animals from the experimental group it reached 3.0 %, against 2.89 % in the control one to the 100th day. The fat content in the production of the cows in both groups at the beginning of the experiment corresponded to the breed standard and was 3.64…3.68 %. This index increased by 0.13 % 30 days after application of chitosan and to the 100th day of lactation the difference between groups was 0.27 %.
