DETERMINATION THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING PEAT TO RESTORE BIOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS OF COAL DUMPS

Summary. The article presents the results of 6-year study in the period of 2007-2012 on experimental plot of coal dump of Krasnoborodsky section in Kemerovskaya region on determining the effectiveness of peat preparations to restore biological functions of areas disturbed during the open method of coal mining. Leading factors in solving these problems are plants and their associated microorganisms and enzymes capable of transforming organic matter of plant fragments in humus and destroy the rocks, turning them into fine earth. Determination of the activity of redox enzymes was conducted by indicating the initial recovery process of biological functions of dump soil, activity of oxidizing and reducting ferments and assessment of changes of microbiological pool on numbers and composition. During the research period the steady herbage legumes and grasses was generated and its organic matter going to the soil was transformed. Therefore, to estimate the degree of development of the newly formed labile organic matter (LOM) the study of its optical properties in UV and visible spectrum was conducted. The enzyme activity in the soil at the first year (2007) was low. By the end of the sixth vegetation season (2012) in experimental variants catalase activity increased in 3.5-4.4 times, dehydrogenase – in 29-33 times, polyphenol oxidase – in 9-10 times, peroxidase – in 3-5 times. The number of examined groups of microorganisms in the experimental variants varied not equally from year to year, however, it tended to increasing in comparison with control. Calculation of LOM according to the color spectrum analysis indicated a lower degree of its forming in comparison with zonal soil.
