Summary. The investigations were carry out to study the possibility and appropriateness of the application of modified nutrient medium for rapid isolation of mycobacteria from the biomaterial from laboratory animals, infected with «atypical» cultures. We investigated guinea pigs, which were infected by mycobacteria cultures belonging to III (Mycobacteriae intracellularae) and IV (Mycobacteriae smegmatis + Mycobacteriae phlei) groups according to the classification of Runyon. The animals were examined by bacteriological method on 14, 28, 45, 60 days after the infection. The biomaterial from animals was plated on two variants of culture media: Lowenstein-Jensen in the original recipe (control) and Lowenstein-Jensen with the addition of phytonutrients. The information value of the used solid nutrition mediums was evaluated by the speed and intensity of growth of the colonies. The modified growth medium with phytonutrients considerably surpassed the standard one in all analyzed parameters. During the study of biomaterial from guinea pigs, infected by atypical mycobacteria of III group on the classification of Runyon, the initial cultures were isolated on both mediums during the whole experiment (60 days). The inoculation of primary cultures at medium with phytonutrients was higher on 28…30 % as compared with the control. During the growth the intensity of colonies on the control medium reduced to 20…28 %, and on the experimental one it remained high (about 68 %); the accumulation of bacterial mass was also more active and was estimated at 4…5 points. The original cultures were not isolated from biomaterial from guinea pigs, infected by mixed culture of atypical mycobacteria of IV group according to the classification of Runyon. Perhaps, this is connected to the early elimination of mycobacteria from the organism. The increase rate of growth and intensity of accumulation of bacterial mass enable to significantly improve the accuracy and to reduce the time of diagnosis, without expending large economic means, due to the low cost of the components of the phytonutrient, used for the enrichment of modified medium.
