Summary. In this paper there are presented the results of studies indicating the possibility of administration of the test with nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT-test) to identify animals not only with the explicit infectious pathologies, but also with a susceptibility to leukemic infection. In the experiment there were tested 100 head of cattle of different age (young animals up to 2 months, 5…6 months, 12 months, 17…18 months and cows at the age from 3 to 5 years) from problem in leucosis farm. Low value of the coefficient stimulation of NBT-test (0.95 and below), defined as the ratio between the induced and spontaneous variants, is the main feature reflecting the depletion of anti-infective potential of neutrophils. The reduction in the coefficient of stimulation of NBT-test was detected in all animals, infected with bovine leukemia virus at the age of 12 and 17…18 months, as well as in 86.9 % of cows. Initially low value of this index was observed in the majority of RID-negative animals since the age of 12 months (from 57.1 to 73.7 % depending on the age) from the problem herd, that testified the reducing resistance and low microbicidal activity of neutrophils and, as a consequence, the high sensitivity to leukemic infection. At the same time, the excessive increase in the formation of reactive oxygen intermediates in ill cows indicates the insufficiency of the antioxidant system, which is associated with the development of infectious and inflammatory complications.
