Summary. The aim of the research was to study the physical and chemical parameters of new disinfectant based on peracetic acid. The experiments were carried out in the laboratory of diagnostic tests and biotechnology of All-Russian Research Institute of Brucellosis and Tuberculosis of Animals according to methodical instructions «On the Order of Testing New Disinfectants for Veterinary Practice» and state standards. The preparation formulation was developed by research assistants of the institute; the prototype was made by a company engaged in the production of detergents and disinfectants. The study of physicochemical parameters of the preparation included organoleptic researches (color, smell, consistence, uniformity, the presence of precipitate or bundle), measurement of pH of process solutions and concentrate, measurement of the surface tension of the concentrate and process solutions. The experimental preparation relates to the group of organic peracids and peroxidates. It contains peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide as proactive substances. New disinfectant is a colorless transparent liquid with pungent smell of acetic acid. Tested working solutions of the preparation mixed well with water in all proportions (t = 20 deg and 70 deg) without precipitation, flocks, formation of suspension or emulsion. Indicator of hydrogen ion activity H+ (pH) of process solutions from the preparation, as well as the concentrate have acid medium in the range pH = 2.2…3.4. Reduction of the surface tension from 69.51 erg/cm2 of the concentrated form to 69.15…68.70 erg/cm2 in process solutions leads to increase in their wetting capacity, consequently, to better contact with treated surface, which in turn increases the time of preparation exposure on microbial cell.

Keywords: disinfectant, peracetic acid, physicochemical parameters, surface tension, activity of hydrogen ions.
