Summary. The effect of the method of separate housing of heifers and adult cows on behavioral responses during lactation (the index of general activity, feeding activity, comfort movements, inactivity) was studied. The control animals (cow-heifers and adult cows) were kept together. The index of general activity for 5 lactations was higher in the experimental groups of animals, where cows had higher productivity at control days. The process of adaptation of cow-heifers was faster at separate keeping from adult cows than in the group of mixed housing. The system of specific actions, determining the functional state during the life of the body, is characterized by complex forms of animal behavior (feeding activity, comfort movements, inactivity). The highest index of feeding activity was registered in heifers and adult cows from the test groups during the first third of lactation, and then it decreased. In the group of control animals there was the opposite feeding behavior: low activity in the beginning of lactation and high activity - at the end of lactation. The experimental animals consumed more food, spent more time for rest and rumination. Infrapassive animals had the lowest productivity for 305 days of lactation. Separate keeping of heifers and adult cows, minimal rearrangement of these animals contributed to the growth of productivity and better adaptation of cows of weak type of nervous activity (infrapassive and passive).
