Summary. In the modern highly productive dairy cattle breeding the considerable decrease in the reproductive ability of cows is observed. However, only 50 % of the received litter is heifers, which are necessary for annual input in a herd to maintain the reproduction at each farm. In this context the question of obtaining of larger quantity of heifers is critical for many high-productive herds. The effective application of sexed semen completely provides farms with own breeding livestock and makes it possible to sell heifers. The purpose of our researches was to estimate the efficiency of use of sexed semen. The work was carried out at OOO Sibirskaya Niva, which is a high-technology leading enterprise on production of milk in Novosibirsk region. Sexed semen has been applied at stud farm since 2010. We analyzed the use of semen of 5 black-and-white stud bulls of Holstein breed of American breeding. The productivity was compared on the basis of the following indicators: quantity of impregnated cows and heifers from the first insemination, the share of heifers (%), quantity of deadborn calves and abortions. We used both the usual cryoconserved sperm and the sexed one from 3 bulls. The process of separation of sperm cells according to the sex influences the impregnating ability of sperm, worsening its quality (fertilization decreased by 7…24 %). It was revealed the significantly higher efficiency of application of sexed semen for heifers than for cows (a difference in fertilization in average is 20 %, p < 0.001). The sexed semen Laddi 9508 had the best effectiveness of artificial insemination (66 % at the first insemination) from 5 stud bulls, used for heifers; the worst effectiveness was in semen Meteora 10661 (37 %). In the countries, which evaluate the fertility of sperm, the inseminations by the semen, separated according to the sex, are not taken into consideration. In spite of this, it is possible to rely on this estimation of fertility during the selection of sexed semen. The best sperm, even after influence of adverse factors in the course of separation according to the sex, remains the best. The output of heifers from 5 bulls was 86.6 % that was less, than the promised minimum of 90 %. With the choice of farms to use sexed semen, it is necessary to carefully select the bulls on the impregnating ability of their sperm, because this indicator essentially differs.
Keywords: sexed semen, impregnating ability, fertility of sperm, sperm, easiness of calving.
