Summary. Tests carried out in 2009-2011 in the Russian Research Institute of Phytopathology, ZAO "Ozery" (Russia, Moscow region), and the company Tuberosum Technologies Inc. (Canada) showed that preplant treatment of seed tubers by impulse low-frequency electric field (ILEF) in combination with standard protection schemes enabled to improve productivity and marketability of potato up to 37.5 and 30%, respectively. Check in the medium tonnage studies of pilot tests on different continents also confirmed the prospect of ILEF for control of disease and formation of high-quality potato crop. Good results are revealed even for predominantly aerobic transmitted pests: preplant treatment by ILEF in combination with five-time spraying of vegetative plants by Agat-25K (100 g/ha) reduced the number of tubers affected by late blight by 7%, increases the yield by 4.1 t/ha (22%) and the marketability by 7.2% compared with the untreated control. This is comparable to indicators obtained for several standard schemes of chemical protection. It should be noted that ILEF and its application technology is not so simple, there are economically difficult to be implemented. However, due to the global trends in organic production they are promising. Based on the obtained results it can be recommended to include the technology of preplant treatment by ILEF in integrated schemes of potato protection, as well as the application of this technology in combination with treatments by biological fungicides in ecologically sound controls.

Keywords: potato, yield, marketability, impulse low-frequency electric field, mini-tubers, organic farming.
