Summary. Data retrieval system (DRS) “Herbicides. Grain Crops” was developed in Siberian Physico-Technical Institute of Agrarian Problems. This system enables agricultural producers to get topical information and consultation services, which can help to improve quality and efficiency of decision-making through automatic selection of environmentally safe and economically justified range of herbicides in accordance with particular conditions of their use. The system also provides automatic identification of weeds. The functions of the "Herbicides. Grain Crops” system are following: selection, sorting and comparison of herbicides in accordance with their characteristics (ecological and toxicological, technological, economical) with regard to the chosen grain crop, its stage of development and weed group; printable output of complete information about the chosen herbicide based on 31 characteristics; information on connection of herbicides, weed plants and grain crop from the data base (14 compliance table); output of visual materials (images of weed plants at various stages of development) and an opportunity to use a database editor. The data retrieval system “Herbicides. Grain Crops” is developed with the use of programming environment Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, programming language is C#, operating system is Windows ХР and Windows 7. Two certificates for the application software were awarded by the Russian Federal Agency for Patent and Trademarks: No.2010615657, awarded at 01.09.2010 for data retrieval system “Herbicides. Grain Crops” and No.201362608, awarded at 06.03.2013 for the database editor “Herbicides. Grain Crops”. It is recommended for usage at district and regional plant protection stations, agricultural enterprises, research institutes and universities.
