Summary. The main purpose of our investigations was to evaluate high-productive varieties and populations of alfalfa according to the productivity of both green mass and seeds. The researches were carried during 2012-2014 on the experimental center of P.P. Lukianenko Krasnodar Research Institute of Agriculture. Soils of the experimental plot were medium and heavy leached chernozems with low humus content. The plots were set randomly in four replications. The Sparta variety was used as a control. During three years of the research the following populations were selected: SGP-8/14, SPG-9/11 and SGP 17/87. These populations exceeded the standard in terms of yield of green feed by 14.30; 12.63 and 10.61 t/ha, correspondingly, in terms of seed yield–by 160; 120 and 140 kg/ha. In the competitive trial in 2013 year, the yield of greed feed of the best varieties over three harvestings was 41.59-47.23 t/ha. In the control nursery in 2012 the complex-hybrid population 82/21, 82/80 and 84/11 exceeded the standard by 11.36, 10.31 and 9.19 t/ha, correspondingly. The best results were registered in 82/21, 37/14 and 16/4 populations, which exceeded the standard by 8.32-9.32 t/ha. In the collection nursery in 2012-2014 the yield of dry matter of variety samples Kitajskaya (32861), Kitajskaya (36037), S. Luce and Florida was close to the standard–97-99%. It can be explained by plumpness of the stem, which causes standing of plants without lodging. All productive varieties will be used in further breeding. The population SGP-82/21 was sent for State crop testing.
