Summary. Variety is one of the most effective and cheap ways to increase the production of agricultural products. New winter barley variety Iosif, offered for use in production for the 6th region of Russian Federation in 2015, belongs to the palladium type. It has large six-row spike and thousand grain weight of 39-47 g. Improved anatomic structure of stem enabled to form a firm culm, thus, despite the tall height, the variety is resistant to lodging. Good immunity allows the new variety to be cultivated against medium agricultural background without applying any fungicides. Against high agricultural background only one treatment can be used. Intensive early growth and high tilling capacity allows reducing density of variety to 3.5-4.0 millions of germs per hectare. Deeply extending root system provides the plants with moisture during the drought, thus, despite the variety is medium-late maturing, during dry season the yield reduces in a less degree. The potential productivity of new variety is 11 t/ha. When the yield is so high, it probably lodges, for this reason retardant applying is recommended against high agricultural background. New variety Iosif along with yield increase, allows reducing production costs and increase cost-effectiveness of winter barley production.
