Summary. We studied the allele pool of 11 decorative chicken breeds and obtained their genetic profiles using 16 microsatellite loci. The study material was represented by feathers of chicken (n = 330) of the following breeds: Sultanka (SUL), Bantams (BEN), Kurchavye (KUR), Shabot (SH), Ushanka (USH), Ushanka Lokhmonogaya (USH_L), Padovana Blue (PAD_B), Padovana Golden-Spotted (PAD_GS), Silky Gray (S_G), Silky Fawn (S_F) and Silky White (S_W) from genetic herds of the All-Russian Research and Technological Institute of Poultry Breeding. We analyzed the genetic diversity of breeds by studying polymorphism of the variable regions of genome–microsatellites (MS). For this purpose, we applied two multilocus systems GAL-1 and GAL-2. Multiplex analysis was carried out by ABI genetic analyzer 3130X1. The calculation of population-genetic parameters was performed using the software GenAlеx (ver. 6.4.1), PAST, Structure (v.2.3.1). The average number of alleles (Na) per locus was 5.2 alleles. The degree of observed heterozygosity ranged from 14.8 (PAD_B) to 41.9% (USH) with mean value of 29.9%. The coefficient of inbreeding Fis varied from 35.6 (USH) to 75.3% (PAD_B). Analyzing DNA profiles, we found out that studied chickens were carriers of unique alleles that were not detected in modern populations. There were no private alleles in two breeds (KUR and S_G). At the same time the number of private alleles in other breeds varied from 1 (SUL) to 12 (USH). Cluster analysis of decorative chicken breeds enabled to determine the structure of the investigated birds (К = 7), and to identify genetic relationship between them. Microsatellite profiles can be used in order to study genetic characteristics in poultry breeding, including controlling and confirming the breed assignment and genuineness.
