Summary. In the P.P. Lukianenko Krasnodar Research Institute of Agriculture since 1981 to 2015 the investigations on breeding of grain wintering pea were carried out. The most of the years were favorable for growth and developments of plants, but 1985, 1994, 2003, 2008 and 2012 were adverse for wintering, and 2000, 2003, 2007 and 2010 were droughty. This enabled to evaluate breeding material on resistance to stress factors of the environment and lodging. For the first time it was developed processable varieties of grain wintering pea: Zimus (varietas ecaducоcontextum) and Fokus (varietas contextum) by the method of individual selection. New varieties are early-ripening with a shorter vegetation period in comparison with the standard variety Faeton (by 15 and 9 days correspondingly). For four years of competitive test (2008-2011) Zimus exceeded the standard by 320 kg/ha on seed productivity, Fokus – by 560 kg/ha. Both varieties are dwarf, the stem height is 55-70 cm and 65-79 cm, respectively (for the standard it is 180-210 cm), the leaves are of tendril type, which creates the non-lodging crop. Zimus seeds are light-colored, larger, in comparison with the standard (the thousand seed weight is 203.0 g, which is higher by 31.8 g than for Faeton), unshedding. Seeds of Fokus are light-colored with black hilum, the thousand seed weight is 211.6 g, which is higher by 40.4 g that for the standard. Varieties Fokus (since 2015) and Zimus (since 2016) are included in the State Register of Selection Achievements of the Russian Federation and proposed for the cultivation in the North-Caucasian region. Breeding value of new varieties consists in the unique combination of winter hardiness, dwarfism, productivity, resistance to lodging, leaves of the tendril type, therefore we recommend using them not only in production, but also in breeding programs at creation of processable varieties of grain wintering pea.

Keywords: wintering, spring pea, breeding, variety, crossing, yield, processability, lodging resistance, leaf of tendril type.
