Summary. The provision of food safety of Russia is a topical problem over the last 20 years, and its solution is possible only on the basis of innovative development of agro-industrial complex, technological modernization, logistics, new methods of solution of questions of processing, storage and selling of production. The improvement of breeding work, creation of breeding centers, maintenance of domestic gene pool, formation of good social conditions in the country, realization of state plans and programs create the necessary base for the solution of given problems; and there are some successes in this direction, including import substitution.
