Summary. It was carried out the series of tests to study the influence of components of nutrient medium on growth of larvae of Galleria mellonella L. using the methods of mathematical planning of the experiment. The linear plan 2E(9-5) was realized with the further construction of the regression equation. In order to reduce the variance and to increase the statistical significance of the regression coefficients all experiments were carried out simultaneously in the same volume. It was revealed the regularity of distribution of an average larvae weight in the volume; in the center in was significantly less than at the edges. The position of larvae in space influenced their weight increase much more than ±10% of variation of the components in the feed. To estimate quantitatively the distribution of larvae according to their weight it was proposed four hypotheses for the choice of the approximating function: the hypothesis of middle level, the hypothesis of median, the hypothesis of factor increasing the growth of larvae at the edges and the hypothesis of suppression of growth of larvae in the center. On their basis it was determined reference levels, relative to which experimental data were recalculated to reduce the variance of the test. The piecewise linear approximation of the experimental results on larvae distribution was carried out, and compensating coefficients were calculated. The minimum of the sum of standard deviations was used as the criterion for the selection of hypotheses. According to it, the hypothesis of the presence of a factor, which increases the growth of larvae on the edges along the longitudinal axis of the volume, where the larvae grow, is optimal. As a result of calculations on this hypothesis the growth of larvae on the edges of volume was more intensive than in the center 1.44 times, and the variance reduced doubly – from 0.014 to 0.007. It indicates the significance of the influence of the spatial distribution of larvae.
