Summary. According to research carried out the territory of Vologda region can be divided into four zones, which different in soil and climatic conditions. The most acidic sod-podzol soils with pH(KCl) 4.8-5.5 and low content of humus (2.15-2.87%) predominate in the Eastern zone. In the soils of Babushkinsky, Nikolsky, Kich-Gorodetsky, Nyuksensky, Totemsky (East zone), Vytegorsky (North zone), Mezhdurechensky (central zone) districts the average content of mobile phosphorus (59-98 mg/kg) was registered; in the other districts it was higher and high. The low provision of arable soils with potassium is noted in the western areas of the region, where sandy and sandy loam soils with light granulometric composition dominate. The abrupt reduction of mobile potassium content in the soil was noted between the 5th (1991-1995) and the 6th cycles (1996-2000) of agrochemical monitoring: it decreased from 125 mg/kg to 104 mg/kg on the average over the region. Further, during the last 15 years, the content of K2O remains at one and the same level, 113-117 mg/kg. On provision with micronutrients zinc and cobalt as well as sulfur are in the first minimum. Due to the low volume of mineral fertilizers, starting with 1994-1996, the negative balance of NPK developed. The situation is particularly acute in potassium, the deficit of which in the recent years is more than 20 kg/ha (in 2015 – 31.7 kg/ha). With scientifically substantiated application of organic and mineral fertilizers and lime the productivity of cereal crops under conditions of the region can reach 4.4-4.7 t/ha with the recoupment of 1 kg of NPK by 7.2-8.2 kg of grain (SKhPK collective farm “Novlensky” and PZK “Avrora”).
Keywords: soil fertility, fertilizer, balance of nutrients, crop yields, agrochemical indices of the soil, liming, recoupment.
