Summary. The aim of the investigation was to reveal promising clematis cultivars, growing and abundantly blossoming under conditions of the south of Western Siberia. First introduction study of 69 clematis cultivars (Clematis L.) from 7 horticultural groups was carried out at M.A. Lisavenko Research Institute of Horticulture for Siberia (Barnaul). The climate of the introduction region is characterized by severe winter period, short, but hot, often drought summer with high solar insolation. The soil of the experimental plot is dark-gray, forest, the structure is weakly expressed. Irrigation is irregular. Observation methods are usual. For five years of the variety-studying (2012-2016), the collection decreased from 69 to 34 cultivars, 33% of the cultivars blossomed stable. In the year with cool vegetative period and an excessive amount of precipitations 36% of the cultivars did not blossom, and in hot drought years, the fraction was 27-28%. Plant regrowth was observed on the 10-13th day after the transition of the average-daily air temperature over 10 degrees. Cultivars blossomed in the first-second decades of July and finished blossoming in August-October. Blossoming duration varied in dependence of the variety from 10-19 days (20%) up to 50-110 days (30%). At vegetative propagation by soft (wood) cuttings under conditions of artificial mist without stimulators of root formation 25-81% of cuttings rooted in dependence of the cultivar, with the application of 50 mg/l of beta-indolebutyric acid the value was 46-100%. Clematis cultivation in the south of Western Siberia is possible only at artificial protection from the influence of negative factors of winter period (covering with warming material) and at regular irrigation during the period of active growth and the development of plants. At assessment of economic-biological characters (resistance to unfavorable weather conditions, long and abundant blossoming, ability to vegetative propagation) the following high-ornamental cultivars are selected: Black Prince, Gipsy Queen, East River, Hagly Habrid, Madam Baron Vielard, Miss Bateman, Snow Queen, Polish Spirit, Rouge Cardinal, Sunset, Victoria and Westplatte.
Keywords: clematis, introduction, phenophases, resistance, rooting ability of cuttings.
