Summary. Investigations were carried out in the test field of the Ural Research Institute of Agriculture in 2011–2015 to determine the efficiency of cultivation of oil flax – a non-traditional crop for the region. The soil of the experimental field was dark gray forest soil. The objects of the study were two varieties (Severny and LM 98) and four new breeding lines (3846, 3893, 3813 and 3850) of oil flax. Field tests, concomitant observations, and calculations were performed according to the method designed in the V.S. Pustovoyt All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops; variance analysis was carried out according to B.A. Dospekhov. The meteorological conditions provided a strong influence on the duration of the vegetative period of oil flax. The vegetative period of Severny standard-variety was from 83 days to 108 days. The yield of seeds was 1.79–2.88 t/ha. Under favorable weather conditions, it can be obtained more than 2.5 t/ha of oilseed of flax (in the case of plant density of 580 plants/m2). In the case of observance of the main elements of cultivation technology, the culture is capable of forming high yield of seeds (at the level of 2 t/ha), even under the unfavorable meteorological conditions for this crop. This value of yield is comparable with the value of this parameter, obtained in the traditional areas of cultivation of oil flax. It points to the prospects of cultivation of oil flax under the soil-climatic conditions of the Middle Ural. To obtain high yields of oil flax the varieties, tested under the local conditions, should be used. They should be sown in the first decade of May (sowing rate is 9 million germinating seeds per 1 ha), and harvesting must be carried out by the separate method at the beginning of yellow maturity phase.
