Abstract. An assessment of fertility level of long irrigated (more than 30 years) meadow-chernozem soil through was carried out through power characteristics of its organic matter. With this purpose in mind the reserves of energy, accumulated in humus, its labile humic acids and organic matter of soil, were calculated. During the period from 2002 to 2013, the territory was used for cultivation of vegetable cultures and perennial grasses. On the surveyed arable land of the irrigated plot slightly humic, low-humic and medium-humic kinds of the studied meadow-chernozem soil were selected. At irrigation the content of total humus under perennial grasses reached 5.15-6.56 %; the level of the power potential of organic matter and power consumption of the soil amounted 2698-3352 GJ/ha and 1349-1676-J/cm3, respectively. One of the available forms of energy is accumulated in labile humus acids; its considerable part is concentrated in the labile fraction of humic acids. In the soil under the cover of perennial grasses the reserve of energy in this fraction was about 111-200 GJ/ha, in the fraction of labile fulvic acids – about 148-171 GJ/ha. On sites of the arable land, where vegetable cultures were grown for a long time, the quantity of total humus and reserves of energy were lower in different components of organic matter. In low-humic soils the content of humus varied from 4.4 to 5.58 %, the energy potential of organic matter – from 1945 to 2467 GJ/ha, the level of power consumption of the soil was in the range of 953-1208 J/cm3. The maximal reserves of energy in labile humic acids reached 222 GJ/ha, in labile fulvic acids – 151 GJ/ha. The minimum values of these indices are characteristic for slightly humic soils. The content of humus in them was on the level of 3.76-4.07 %, power potential – 1659-1790 GJ/ha, power consumption – to 814-881 J/cm3; in labile humus acids it is concentrated up to 85-151 GJ/ha of energy.
