Abstract. We determined the qualitative and quantitative composition of carotenoids and amino acids of seeds of five varieties of white lupine: Manovitsky, Gamma, Delta, Gamma x Dega, Deter, grown on the experimental fields of Belgorod Research Agricultural Institute in 2016. We carried out the quantitative analysis of the amino acid composition (in the form of phenylisothiocarbamyl derivatives) by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in the reverse phase variant. It demonstrated that most of it is composed of asparagine (2.44 ± 0.09 % of the sum of amino acids), arginine (2.20 ± 0.13 %), leucine (1.81 ± 0.07 %), lysine (1.49 ± 0.04 %), tyrosine (1.31 ± 0.05 %). The differences in the amino acid composition were not significant, and according to their content, all studied varieties had the same nutritional value. The carotenoid complex was studied by the HPLC in two versions (reversed-phase and normal-phase). Unesterified lutein and zeaxanthin dominated in grains of white lupine (74.2 % of the total carotenoids, 3 : 2 ratio); the proportion of monoesters of these xanthophylls was 1.8 %, diesters – 1.6 %, and beta-carotene fraction was 0.7 %. According to the content of carotenoids, the varieties differed markedly. Thus, Deter variety contained 12.7 mg/kg of carotenoids, Delta – 18.1 mg/kg, Gamma – 19.7 mg/kg. Varieties Manovitsky (20.6 mg/kg) and Gamma x Dega (21.5 mg/kg) were the richest in carotenoids. They can be recommended for use as an additive in feed for laying hens, especially considering that the carotenoid complex contains zeaxanthin.

Keywords: white lupine, amino acid composition, HPLC, carotenoids, lutein, poultry farming.
