Abstract. The article presents a brief description and peculiarities of the new soybean variety ‘Primorskaya 96’, developed in Primorsky Agricultural Research Institute, included into the State Register of selection achievements of the Russian Federation and admitted for usage in the 12th region of the Russian Federation. It presents the advantages of the variety under production conditions and its economic value compared to the previously released varieties. Soybean ‘Primorskaya 96’ was developed by hybridization, which provides environmental safety of the product and possibility of its usage for food and animal feed without restrictions, unlike foreign genetically modified samples. The paper presents indices of productivity (the excess over the standard was 0.5 t/ha), the content of protein and oil in seeds (39.7 % and 22.7 %, respectively), gives a description of morphological traits and immunological characteristics of the variety. It is noted the ability of its plants to form high stable yield against the background of the epiphytotic development of diseases (under 100 % abundance and 41 % development degree of false mildew the yield was 2.7 t/ha), which enables to reduce the pesticide load. The variety described in this article meets the majority of the demands: it has seed resistant to injury during mechanized harvesting (by 13 % less than ‘Primorskaya13’), high attachment of the lowest bean (12–14 cm), lodging resistance and resistance to bean cracking, the ability to “overripe”, simultaneous ripening. The complex of these qualities allows to minimize yield losses during harvesting.

Keywords: soybean, variety, yield, vegetation length, adaptability, processability, resistance to fungi diseases.
