Abstract. The article presents the results of examination of Baganskoe 88 and Kulundinskoe hog millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) varieties in three experimental plots, located in different soil and climatic zones: in the village of Batsumber Tovajmake in the dry sub-zone of the agricultural area of Mongolia; within the territory of educational, research and production complex “Borsky” in the forest-steppe zone; in the steppe zone of the North Kulunda (Bagan, Bagansky district, Novosibirsk region). Under conditions of the dry steppe zone of Mongolia with the deficit of moisture the seeds of millet of both varieties shot in 15 days, under more favorable conditions of the steppe zone of Western Siberia – in 10 days. In the steppe zone of Western Siberia the duration of the period “shoots – ear formation” was 38 days for Baganskoe 88 variety and 46 days for Kulundinskoe variety. At the deficit of moisture under conditions of Mongolia it was 27 days for both varieties. The yield of green mass of Kulundinskoe variety varied from 20.6 t/ha (North Kulunda department of the Siberian Research Institute of Feed) to 27.0 t/ha (UNPK “Borsky”, FGBOU VO of Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University); of Baganskoe 88 variety – from 15.9 to 48.4 t/ha, correspondingly. It is expedient to use Kulundinskoe and Baganskoe 88 varieties of hog millet in forage production in different soil and climatic zones of Russia. To assess the possibility of using these varieties in Mongolia, it is necessary to develop appropriate cultivation technologies that will improve the provision of livestock in Mongolia with balanced feeds.
