Abstract. The article presents the results of crossings of half-blooded ewes (1/2 of Aginsk breed + 1/2 of Kazakh breed) with rams of Aginsk and Kazakh medium-wool breed of the “bayys” type. The studies were conducted in the pedigree reproduction center of V.I. Lenin ACF, Mogojtujsky district, Zabaykalsky krai, in 2006–2009. In order to study the productive qualities of medium-wool sheep depending on the origin, three experimental groups of lambs were formed: I – purebred Aginsk breed; II –hybrids of the second generation (1/4 of Aginsk breed + 3/4 of the “bayys” type of Kazakh breed); III –hybrids of the second generation (3/4 of Aginsk breed + 1/4 of the “bayys” type of Kazakh breed). The animals of the third group spent less time from the birth till the first feeding by 8.9 and 4.2 % in comparison with the first and the second groups, correspondingly. In the live weight the advantage of young rams from the third group at the age of 4 months was 7.2 and 8.6 %, at the age of 12 months – 9.3 and 16.0 %, and at the age of 18 months – 4.6 and 5.7 %. The corresponding values for young ewes were 3.4 and 5.1 %; 6.3 and 9.8 %; 1.9 and 6.3 %. They differed by significantly better indicators of meat productivity from the lambs of the same age from the control group and the second test group. According to the pre-slaughter live weight, the mass of the carcass and the slaughter output the advantages were 8.3 and 12.5 %, 13.4 and 20.1 %, 2.2 and 3.3 abs.%, respectively, at the age of 4 months; and 4.8 and 6.4 %, 10.5 and 14.1 %, 2.6 and 3.3 abs.%, respectively, at the age of 18 months. The wool productivity and quality were significantly higher in sheep of Aginsk medium-wool breed: wool clip – on 1.6–10.5 %, the length of fibers of the upper tier – on 5.6–19.0 %, the content of fluff – on 4.7–9.2 abs.%.
