Abstract. The purpose of the work was to screen collection samples of spring barley of different ecological and geographical origin and to select promising material for breeding on productivity and quality of grain under conditions of Eastern Siberia. The studies were carried out in a breeding crop rotation of Krasnoyarsk Research Agricultural Institute in 2014–2017. The soil was ordinary chernozem, low thick; the content of humus (according to Tyurin) was 6.00%, of N-NO3 (determined by the ionometric express method) – 31.3 mg/kg of soil, P2O5 (according to Machigin) – 5.00 mg/100 g of soil, K2O (according to Machigin) – 21.9 mg/100 g of soil, the reaction of the soil solution was neutral (pH was 6.2). The forecrop was bare fallow. The objects of the study were 238 barley samples of different ecological and geographical origin from the VIR collection. Two-row variety Acha and six-row variety Sobolek were used as standards. The agrometeorological conditions of vegetation periods during the study years were contrasting: 2014 and 2016 years were excessively wet (the hydrothermal index was 2.11 and 1.59, respectively); 2015 year was droughty (0.95); 2017 year was moderately wet (1.47). Eleven samples of practical interest were selected as sources of high productivity (597–705 g/m2): Codac, Etienne, Diamond, AC Albright, Vaughn C.I. 11367, Kindred, Bagrets, Ubagan, Talan, Tanaj, and Abalak. Koral, AC Albright, Domen, Cirstin, Asem, Nutans 302, Zernogradets 770, Yasnyi, Novichok, Pervotselinnik, Tarsky 3, Abalak ensured the stable yield (13.5–24.7%). In genotypes AC Albright, Bagretz, Talan and Tarsky 3 the coefficient of adaptation varied from 1.36 to 1.68. According to the breeding value on the “yield” sign (423–522) AC Albright, Cirstin, Talan, Tarsky 3, and Abalak samples were the best. Rodnik 98, Chelyabinets 2 and Asem (14.13–14.48%) were identified as sources of high protein content in the grain. AC Albright, Lovisa, Sjak, Tanay and Omsky Golozerny 1 are valuable for breeding on grain-unit (668–857 g/L).
Keywords: barley; collection; vegetation period; elements of crop structure; yield; lodging resistance; integrated assessment; adaptation coefficient; breeding value of genotypes.
