Abstract. The aim of the study was to develop a high-yield variety of spring feed barley, resistant to diseases and lodging, adaptive to the conditions of the Volga-Vyatka, Ural and Middle Volga regions. The development of a new variety was carried out in Ural Research Agricultural Institute in 2005–2013. The competitive variety test of the new variety ‘Pamyati Chepeleva’ was carried out in 2011–2017. The state variety test of the new cultivar was carried out in the Volga-Vyatka (2014–2016), Middle Volga (2016–2017) and Ural (2016–2017) regions. The standards for comparison in different tests and regions were Acha, Sonet, Raushan, Gonar, Elf, Rodnik Prikamiya, Nur, Preriya varieties. The variety was developed by individual selection from a hybrid population of Omsky 95 x [(Sonet x Nur) x Sonet]. Barley ‘Pamyati Chepeleva’ differs from Acha variety by a longer growing period (it matures later by 3–5 days), but it is more resistant to the deficit of moisture in the first half of summer, due to a more developed root system and the ability to form several tillering nodes. By the weight of 1000 grains, it is at the level of the standard (Pamyati Chepeleva – 46.7 g, Acha – 46.8 g). During 2011 – 2017 in the competitive variety test, the new variety had the average productivity of 5.13 t/ha and exceeded the standards ‘Acha’ and ‘Sonet’ by 0.59 t/ha. On average over the years of the research at 3 variety plots of Sverdlovsk region, the grain yield of Pamyati Chepeleva variety was 4.81 t/ha, which is higher by 13% than the average productivity of Acha variety. A significant excess in the yield (8–15%) was obtained in the republican branches of the State Commission for variety testing (Udmurtia, Tatarstan, Mari El, Chuvashia), regional branches (Nizhny Novgorod and Kurgan) and Perm Krai. Under the production conditions in 2016 in Bogdanovichsky district the yield was 4.42 t/ha, exceeding that of Acha variety by 0.82 t/ha; in the Irbitsky district it was 5.40 t/ha, exceeding the productivity of Sonet by 0.62 t/ha.
