Abstract. Parameters of yield capacity obtained in 2013–2017 at an experimental field of Falenskaya breeding station (Kirov region) were used for the evaluation of stress resistance, plasticity (bi), and stability (Si2) of ten varieties, included in the State register of breeding achievements, admitted for usage in the Russian Federation, and of perspective lines of chaffy oat. Agro-climatic conditions during the years of the study differed significantly. High yield capacity at the level of 7.52–8.60 t/ha was formed in 2014, which was the most favourable in warm and moisture supply. The index of environmental conditions had positive value (Ij = 2.37). The negative index (Ij = -3.94) and low yield capacity (1.37–1.93 t/ha) were registered in 2013, which was unfavourable for oat growth. Some varieties had high ecological resistance, estimated as the difference between minimal and maximal yield capacity: Krechet (-5.82 t/ha), Avatar (-5.75 t/ha), and Argamak (-5.95 t/ha). High genetic flexibility according to the average yield under contrasting (stressful and non-stressful) conditions was in perspective lines I-4592 (5.00 t/ha) and I-4552 (5.02 t/ha). I-4592 (bi = 1.15) and I-4600 (bi = 1.10) lines of the intensive type formed increased yield capacity of 8.6 and 8.11 t/ha, respectively, in the case of improvement of growing conditions in 2014, in comparison with 1.37 t/ha in 2013. With an increase in varietal and line adaptability to the most favourable weather conditions, the level of their ecological resistance (stress resistance) decreased. It was selected a group of lines with middle intensity (bi was close to 1, Si2 was close to 0), adapted to different environmental conditions, which were able to form stable yield capacity in changing environmental conditions: I-4595, I-4388, I-4346 and Berber variety, transferred to State variety test in 2017. Yield capacity of variety Berber was higher than that of the standard both under drought conditions (by 0.08 t/ha) and under favourable conditions (by 0.23 t/ha), which is indicated the expediency of its use in production.
