Abstract. The paper presents the results of analysis of 60 promising lines and varieties of fiber flax on resistance to the main factors, limiting yield and fiber quality: drought, high and low soil pH values, toxic effect of herbicides. Under drought conditions, the total stem length varied from 52.7 (Merylin, Holland) to 72 cm (L. 23-4, Russia; Alizee, France) depending on the genotype, with a resistance level of 65.6–85.0%. Flax genotypes resistant to strongly acidic and close to the neutral reaction of soil solution were identified (survival rate of plants was more than 70%): L. 23-4 (Russia), Hermes (France). Samples K-4116, Tost 3 (Russia), Vega 2 (Lithuania), Stroitel (Belarus) showed resistance against a background with pH 6.2, and K-6626 (Russia) were resistant to pH 3.9. In the variant with the treatment with a herbicidal composition Magnum + Herbitox L + Miura, the majority of flax genotypes had a low number of scutched fiber (9–10), while in the control without herbicides it was 12.0–13.5. K-4616 (Japan) and L. 23-4 (Russia) were the exceptions. They were characterized by high fiber quality both in the control and in the variant with the treatment of crops with the herbicidal composition. According to the results of the evaluation of flax samples against different selective backgrounds, the line L. 23-4 is considered to have a wide adaptive potential.
