Abstract. It was studied wool productivity and quality of wool of different age-sex groups of fine-fleeced Zabaikalskaya sheep of the Khangilsky type to improve its productive and breeding qualities. The work was carried out in the Transbaikal Krai in 2015. Each age-sex group consisted of 30 animals. Shearing of grease wool was from 3.2 kg for young ewes to 9.6 kg for rams, with the output of washed wool equal to 54.8–57.1%. The average wool thinness was 20.3 microns for rams, 20.6 microns for ewes, 18.8 microns for ram hogs, 21.5 microns for young ewes, which corresponded to the quality 70 for males and the quality 64 for females. The wool of ram hog was thinner by 14.4% than that of young ewes. The length of the wool on the side was 10.7 cm, 10.2 cm, 10.6 cm, 10.1 cm; the wool length on the thigh was 10.4 cm, 10.2 cm, 10.2 cm, 10.1 cm, respectively. The uniformity of the wool of the group studied was good – in the range of 1.0–1.4 microns. The crimp was well expressed (5.0–5.8 pieces per 1 cm), semicircular in shape. The largest amount of fat was found in males in comparison with females, but the difference was not significant (8.8%, 7.9%, 8.1%, 7.7%, respectively). The least sweat content was found in rams (13.9%), the highest one was in ewes (14.6%) and ram-hogs (14.7%). The ratio of fat to sweat was 1.58 for rams, 1.85 for ewes, 1.81 for ram-hogs, 1.87 for young ewes. A significant positive correlation was found between the length of wool on the side and shearing (+0.717 for rams and +0.867 for ram-hogs), the thinness of wool (+0.341 for rams, +0.509 for ewes), and the number of curls (+0.371 for ewes).
