Abstract. In this study, the results of monitoring soil fertility in the Sakhalin Oblast during the 1965-2016 period were analysed. During the 1–4 stages of the agrochemical survey (1965–1989), all the main indicators of soil fertility were gradually improving against the background of high doses of mineral and organic fertilizers. During this period, the use of mineral and organic fertilizers reached the values of 152 ... 404 kg/ha and 17.0 ... 28.8 t/ha, respectively. As a result, the weighted average content of mobile phosphorus, potassium and organic matter in the soil increased from 70 to 131 mg / kg, 116 to 184 mg / kg and 4.7 to 6.5%, respectively. These values have remained at the aforementioned levels up to the present day. At the same time, the surveyed area decreased from 39.9 thousand hectares in 1985–1989 to 24.7 thousand hectares in 2014–2016, which was largely due to the removal of the least productive arable land from circulation. The balance of the main nutritional elements in the soil has remained negative since 1994, varying from -77 to -95 kg/ha. The acidity of the soil solution was decreasing from 1965 to 2001, which was due to the introduction of a large amount of lime-containing materials during the 1965–1993 period (from 0.8 to 4.6 t/ha). As a result, the weighted average of the soil acidity index increased from 4.2 to 5.1 pH units. Since 1994, the use of chemical ameliorants has not exceeded 0.03 ... 0.08 t/ha, while the value of the weighted average soil acidity index has decreased to 4.7 pH units. The weighted average content of boron in the arable land of the Sakhalin Oblast is shown to be high, while the content of cobalt and molybdenum demonstrate medium values.
