Determination of Drainage Banking Filtration Parameters Using Laboratory Methods

Abstract. The flooding of agricultural lands negatively affects the fertility of the soil, phytomass formation regimes and natural phytocenoses productivity. The research purpose was to compare the results of using various methods for determining the banking filtration coefficient required for designing the engineering protection of reclaimed lands against flooding. Radial pressureless filtration was modeled in a rocker in the form of a circle segment. The filtration coefficients calculated by Korchevskaya’s method, as well as by other well-known empirical formulas (Zamarin, Hazen, Kozeny, Sauerbrey, Zunker, Slichter, Terzaghi and Kruger) were compared with the results obtained for the Kamensky tube, which were taken as a standard. The experiments were carried out on the samples of sand from the left and right banks of the Irtysh River near the city of Omsk. The number of repetitions was not less than 30. To take into account the capillary properties of the draining banking, the height of capillary rise (hk) was determined. Korchevskaya’s method showed the greatest convergence with experimental data. During engineering surveys, the banking filtration coefficients closer to the experimental ones can be determined at the water level in the bore pit Ht = 0.05 m, taking into account the capillarity hc.
