Abstract. The studies were aimed at determining the optimal seeding rate for the new variety of spring barley Kamashevsky. It was performed in 2015–2017 on grey forest soil with typical agrochemical characteristics under the conditions of Cis-Kama zone of the Republic of Tatarstan. We studied the seeding rates of 3.5, 4.5, and 5.5 million viable seeds/ha. Weather conditions during the studies were different: 2015 and 2016 were arid (the hydrothermal coefficient was 0.53 and 0.64, respectively); 2017 was medium humid (the hydrothermal coefficient was 0.98). The optimal seeding rate for the new variety was 4.5 million seeds/ha. In 2015–2017 the grain yield in this variant amounted to 4.14 t/ha on average, compared with 3.38 t/ha and 3.94 t/ha at the seeding rates of 3.5 and 5.5 million seeds/ha. Raushan standard formed the highest yield (3.98 t/ha) at the rate of 5.5 million seeds/ha. Kamashevsky variety yielded the highest weight of 1000 grains at the seeding rate of 4.5 million seeds/ha (42.87–46.04 g). The value of this parameter in the standard was less than in the new variety and changed over the years and rates within 37.12–38.41 g. The protein content in the grain depended on the barley genotype (for Kamashevsky variety it was 11.88–14.07%; for Raushan standard it was 10.26–13.16%) and weather conditions of the year (for the new variety in 2015 it was 13.96–14.12%; in 2017 it was 11.98–12.13%). The seeding rate had no effect on the value of this indicator. The seeding of the new variety Kamashevsky under the conditions of Cis-Kama zone was expedient at the seeding rate of 4.5 million seeds/ha. Ceteris paribus, it will allow reducing the consumption of seminal material by 45 kg/ha.
