Abstract. The purpose of the research was to study the effectiveness of pre-sowing treatment of spring barley seeds of Rakhat variety, as well as to determine its effect on the barley productivity and root rot development. The work was carried out in 2014–2017 on grey forest medium loamy soils in the Cis-Kama region of the Republic of Tatarstan. The seeds were treated by the chemical protectant Scarlet (imazalil + tebuconazole), growth-promoting factor Reasil Forte Semya Start and biofertilizer Rizoagrin (Agrobacterium radiobacter). The preparations were used both separately and in tank mixtures. Non-treated seeds served as a control. The weather conditions during the years of the research were characterized by periodically arid phenomena, including in the initial period of plant development (May). The use of the tank mixture Scarlet + Reasil Forte Semya Start increased the germination rate from 59% in the control to 70%, and the tank mixture Scarlet + Reasil Forte Semya Start + Rizoagrin grew it up to 75%. Treatment by a full tank mixture provided more reliable control of root rot development (1.23 times decrease) than treatment by chemical protectants only. Treatment of the seeds by Scarlet preparation only increased spring barley yield, compared to the control, by 0.25 t/ha. The use of the growth-promoting factor and the biological preparation separately increased it by 0.32 t/ha and 0.28 t/ha, respectively. The use of the tank mixtures Scarlet + Reasil Forte Semya Start increased the productivity by 0.59 t/ha, and the addition of Rizoagrin biological preparation rose it by 0.92 t/ha. The strongest positive effect from the use of tank mixtures was observed in the very arid 2014. The increase in the yield when using tank mixtures was associated with an increase (1.5 times relative to the control) in the plant density before harvesting and in the number of ears per area unit. Their use reduced the total seed damage rate after harvesting and treatment by 3.6%.
