Abstract. n January 1 2017, the total area of natural pastures in the Russian Federation had amounted to 68.5 million hectares. In recent years, the V. R. Williams All-Russian Fodder Research Institute developed a number of improved technologies for creating and using cultivated pastures. This study was aimed at determining the economic efficiency of using modern technologies in the Central region of the Non-Chernozem Zone. Capital investments during the first stage of cultivation pasture development involving those for the creation of early-ripe cereal grasses and territory fencing (21,400 roubles/ha) in combination with the annual production costs for the maintenance of the grass stand and feed use (total 66,800–67,200 roubles/ha) return fully within the period of 2 years. Due to the long-term use of cereal grass stands (14 years) against the background of N180P60K150, high production profitability (128–129%), a low cost of 100 fodder units (480–482 roubles) and the saving of capital investments for re-seeding have been achieved. When creating legume-grass stands for the middle and late stages of the conveyor, including white clover VIK 70 and Lugovik, meadow clover Tetraploidny VIK and Veteran, variegated alfalfa Pastbishchnaya 88 and Agnia, the productivity of 1 hectare on average equals 4.0–4.8 thousand fodder units (consumed feed) during 5 years. At the same time, capital investments return during the period of 1–2 years, with the feed cost being 2.8–2.9 times lower than that of feed oats. Over 5 years, investments in the seeds of variegated alfalfa, white clover and meadow clover return 48–50, 74–81 and 123–153 times, respectively.

Keywords: cultivated pastures; legume and cereal grass stands; capital investments; annual production costs; feed cost; production profitability.
